Notes from last night.

Those of you who were in attendance at Spirit & Truth South last night were promised links to some documents regarding sacred music. Below I've included links to Musicam Sacram (Instruction on Music in the Liturgy) as well as the Institutio Generalis Missalis Romani (General Instruction of the Roman Missal). I've also included an example or two of what passed for liturgical movement following the council as well as some examples of sacred music for your edification. Without further adieu:

Tonight @ S&T South: The Music of the Mass

Spirit & Truth South is back this week after our snow day!

Tonight at Spirit & Truth we continue our discussion on the changes to the Mass following the Second Vatican Council. S&T Coordinator Adam Wright will discuss the music of the Mass, what the church asks of us, what options are given and why we sing what we sing. Following the discussion, we will head over to church to to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. In a special way, we will pray for an end to abortion, the March for Life and those who bear witness to the Gospel of Life.

WHAT: Adoration, Faith & fellowship!
WHEN:  Thursday... @ 7:00 p.m.

SPIRIT & TRUTH SOUTH CANCELLED!

Although forecasts are showing that the snow has tapered off, there are still concerns that cold temps will freeze what has already been melted by the street departments. Spirit & Truth does not advocate driving in winter storm conditions while in a state of grave sin (not that we advocate it in a state of grace either). Let the winter weather be a reminder to avoid grave sin and to make a sacramental Confession whenever possible. As Matthew 24 (vs. 35) reminds us, "you do not know the hour..."

As such SPIRIT & TRUTH SOUTH HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR THIS EVENING.

This Week @ S&T South: Mass, Blessing of Chalk & 12th Night Celebration

Contrary to popular belief, the Christmas song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," does not refer to the twelve days leading up to Christmas, but rather to the twelve days after Christmas. Each of the days has a specific symbolism and the "true love" of the song is not the singer's sweetheart, but rather our Lord, Jesus Christ. To celebrate twelfth night of these 12 Days of Christmas (as well as the coming of Epiphany), Christians have traditionally marked the evening with celebration which we will do at Spirit & Truth.
